Nurturing parents is the keystone that family well-being, childhood outcomes, and community engagement depend on, and it is a crucial element in setting the stage during a child's formative years as they develop competencies that promote lifelong learning. Through this experiential workshop, participants will learn the underlying values of this parent engagement intervention, emphasizing working with families in a nonhierarchical model, empowering parents by encouraging them to see their own innate strengths, developing their own roadmaps for healing and growth, and allying with them as they develop their capacity for positive change.Since its founding in 1982, Parenting Journey (formerly The Family Center), a nonprofit family services organization, has worked directly with families to provide strength-based, trauma-informed parent programming. While many parenting programs focus on child development and disciplinary techniques, the Parenting Journey helps parents become more aware of how they were parented, and how they are raising their own children.Congratulations to our Senior Program Director and Associate Director of Program Development for a successful presentation, "The Parenting Journey: Addressing Parental Well-Being to Increase Family Engagement," in Nashville over the weekend at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Annual Conference!April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. At Parenting Journey we understand the importance of supporting communities, parents, and families in ensuring the well-being of all children.

Parenting offers us a chance to observe and sometimes self-reflect on our actions and reactions towards our children and everyone else. This act of observing, reflecting, and further improving ourselves helps in charting our growth trajeWhen the children grow up or are in their teenage years, their world widens and they have a lot more people influencing them by way of friends, teachers, and more. At this stage, if the parents have already worked on the foundation before the teen years and have a strong friendship with their kids, then it will be a lot easier to control them and deflect any negative influences on them. Growth in parenting is an ongoing process that will need every parent to stay open to observing their child’s needs.
"I'll admit it was sneaky, but it worked. I never really had a problem getting them to nap or go to bed."
7."As a child, my parents told me if I did something bad, I was going to 'baby jail.' I believed in baby jail until I was like 12 years old. If I started crying in a public place, my dad would say, 'Stop that. You don't want to go to baby jail, do you?' And then I would just scream louder like, 'I don't want to go to baby jail!'8."I said that fairies came to the house in the middle of the night and would take away pacifiers, bottles, sippy cups, or anything my child was too old for. It worked great; there was no arguing over items they had outgrown. No one was to blame, not the child or the parent!10."My younger brother was my parent's fourth child, so my mother learned a trick or two by the time he came around. It was about making my brother think he had options and control of his situation.Everyone knows that lying is objectively bad. But when it comes to dealing with toddler tantrums, stubborn kids, and the like, all parents know that white lies are a necessary evil. And sometimes, you hear about a parenting trick that is just too good to forget.

Have you ever worried you may be too overprotective as a parent?
Have you ever worried you may be too overprotective as a parent? A recent study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships examined how overprotective parenting is related to emotional regulation and anxiety in children.Overprotectiveness was also associated with emotional dysregulation (translation: difficulty understanding and modulating emotions) in children and emotional dysregulation was associated with social anxiety. The researchers used statistics to show that emotional dysregulation helped to explain some of the relationship between overprotective parenting and social anxiety.Because this research is correlational, we cannot conclude overprotective parents cause social anxiety or poor emotional regulation. It is also possible that parents become more overprotective as a response to their child’s social anxiety or perceived poor emotional regulation rather than overprotectiveness leading to anxiety and emotional regulation issues. However, this research does emphasize the importance of allowing children age-appropriate independence, as it can help them to build important skills like emotional regulation. This study, along with previous research, finds a link between overprotective parenting and social anxiety.

It’s important to address these concerns a child’s development as they arise, of course, but it’s also important to know how to live in the moment and appreciate the miracle that is life. Being too focused on reaching goals can also translate to missed opportunities for growth, learning and cultivating positive habits and attitudes. It’s also hard to celebrate small milestones and successes when we as parents are so fixated on a goal. The enormous responsibility of parenting can make us too focused on reaching goals, which robs us off opportunities to enjoy the journey. We obviously want our kids to become responsible, law-abiding citizens with good jobs, a good family and a good home. But when the destination becomes more important than enjoying the journey, our happiness becomes circumstantial. Pressure inadvertently trickles down to our kids. And instead of relishing the cherished moments with your child, and your child with you, it’s tempting to get caught up in the day-to-day grind. How to Enjoy the Journey of Parenting
Parenting is a journey filled with joy, love, and, yes, occasional conflict. It’s natural for parents to have different styles, perspectives, and approaches when it comes to raising children. Yet, when those differences clash, it can create tension and challenges within the family dynamic.
Flexibility is another key component in handling different parenting styles during conflict. As your children grow and circumstances change, so too may your parenting approaches. Be open to adapting and evolving your style as needed. Remember, parenting is a journey of continuous learning and adjustment.Remembering that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting is crucial. Each child is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. Embrace the diversity in parenting styles, recognizing that there’s merit in different approaches.Instead of viewing differences as obstacles, see them as opportunities to learn and grow as parents. When conflicts arise, it’s important to approach them with empathy and respect. Remember that you’re both working towards the same goal: the well-being and happiness of your children.Setting boundaries and establishing a united front is also essential in handling conflicts stemming from different parenting styles. Presenting a unified front to your children helps maintain consistency and stability. Discuss and agree on certain non-negotiables, such as rules and consequences, and uphold them together.
Parenting is wonderful lifetime experience and a beautiful journey. All parents do their best to raise their children as a successful and better human being.
Considering same thoughts, we start pressuring our children and pass on our own anxiety to them resulting their childhood spoiling and irony is most parents do not realize this even. Let children grow with their own strengths and let us walk with them during this journey to make it more exciting and fun rather than passing our anxiety to them.Let us understand this as a parent and make this parenting journey successful for both- Parent as well as for child.Only few parents understand parenting is not a struggle rather it is a journey which is to be done along with children happilyWhy majority of parents consider parenting as struggle because they always consider that they have to raise a wonderful superstar child else their life has no meaning as well as their child life as no meaning , which majorly comes society legacy and from their own expectation of filling their own inner emptiness.
